Kenya - Tanzania
Photographs taken at Diani near from Mombasa, at Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park located on the south coast of Kenya near Shimoni, and Pemba Island in Tanzania.
Pemba is one of three islands in the archipelago of Zanzibar in Tanzania, along the African coast in the Indian Ocean. It is located 50 km north of Unguja (called Zanzibar), the main island of the archipelago, separated by the Pemba Channel 50 km from the Tanzanian coast. Its population was estimated in 1988 to 265,000 people over an area of 980 km2 (67 km out of 22). Pemba Island has become today a renowned site for scuba diving to its peaks, the proper conservation of its coral reef and its rich marine life;
Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park is situated on the southern coast of Kenya near Shimoni and south of Wasini Island in Kwale District near the Tanzanian border. Kisite park covers 11 square kilometres while Mpunguti reserve covers 28 square kilometres.
The park covers an area with four small islands surrounded by coral reef.
Marine life is in abundance, including trigger fish, moray eels, angelfish, butterfly fish, groupers, parrotfish, wrasses, scorpionfish, pufferfish, damselfish, rays, snappers, green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles, and dolphins. Humpback whales and whale sharks are seasonal.
