Eschmeyer scorpion fish

This species occurs in the central tropical zone of the Indo-Pacific and in the western part of the Indian Ocean, including Mauritius. It preferably frequents the slopes of coral reefs or stony with a high density of algae and this between 5 m and 30 m of depth. The scorpion fish of Eschmeyer is benthic, nocturnal, and hunts to wait for the passage of its potential prey. Rhinopias eschmeyeri feeds on small fish, shrimps and other small crustaceans passing within its reach.
